Show and tell at Evergreen Place<\/a> isn\u2019t just for kids \u2013 it\u2019s become a beloved weekly routine for residents in assisted living and memory care. Also known as Share a Memory, retired grade school teacher Sheila F. brought back a classroom tradition, which featured a penguin with a blue ribbon.<\/p>

Sheila shared how her students used to celebrate something called \u201cPenguin Days\u201d \u2014 reading stories from the \u201cTacky the Penguin\u201d series, then leaving with a blue ribbon just like Tacky wears in the books.<\/p>

She had the chance to share about the famous character, reading several stories aloud to her fellow residents. When she finished, she reached into her bag and pulled out blue ribbons. Everyone who joined the session received one. Making the moment even more special, pictures from the day were featured during the Bright Spot segment on WHAM13 News<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\u201cTacky the Penguin\u201d was so instrumental to Sheila as a teacher, her students made a mini replica of her classroom featuring the beloved character \u2014 a gift for her retirement.<\/p>

\u201cThese weekly gatherings remind us that residents bring a lifetime of experiences with them,\u201d said Julie Westcott, Executive Director of Evergreen Place. \u201cSheila\u2019s \u2018Penguin Days\u2019 were new to many of us, and now they\u2019re part of Evergreen Place, too.\u201d<\/p>
