The purple ribbon symbolizes the calm stability of blue and the passionate energy of red, qualities anyone who\u2019s acted as a caretaker can understand.<\/p><p>Four decades ago, when little was known about Alzheimer\u2019s and research was next to non-existent, a group of home caretakers took it upon themselves to find answers:<\/p><ul><li>The Alzheimer\u2019s Association was founded in 1980 as a way to unite caregivers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alz.org\/orswwa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provide support<\/a>, and advocate for research.<\/li><li>It is the leading volunteer health organization advocating for this form of dementia.<\/li><li>Their mission: To discover a world without Alzheimer&#8217;s and all other dementias.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u201cThe first survivor of Alzheimer&#8217;s is out there, but we won&#8217;t get there without you,\u201d says the association. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alz.org\/global\/overview.asp#:~:text=Alzheimer's%20%26%20Dementia%3A%20Global%20Resources,unique%20online%20resources%20and%20tools.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">50 million people across the globe<\/a> currently living with Alzheimer\u2019s, the time to find a cure is now.<\/p><h3>What is Alzheimer\u2019s?<\/h3><p>Thanks to the Alzheimer\u2019s Association research, we know that Alzheimer\u2019s occurs due to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alz.org\/alzheimers-dementia\/what-is-alzheimers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">buildup of plaque and nerve cells<\/a> tangling in the brain. Over time it causes the brain to shrink and affects all functions of this vital organ. A person can live for years with this process before ever knowing they have it. Below is a chart of typical changes that may occur in stages.
