Finding Rockford Area Memory Care and Spokane Alzheimer’s News

If you or someone you know is dealing with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, finding the right care can be a considerable challenge. Fortunately, resources are available to help you make the best decision for your loved one.

One option to consider is North Point Village, a senior living community in Spokane that offers a data-based memory care program called Connections. This program is designed specifically for residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Specialized care and support help seniors maintain their independence and quality of life. The program utilizes research-based neuroplasticity therapies that inspire residents to connect, move, and learn. This process is valuable for brain health and slowing memory loss.

Located close to Mead, Colbert, and Rockford, memory care at North Point Village offers a convenient location for those in the surrounding areas who need comprehensive Alzheimer’s and dementia support.

The community is staffed by a team of trained professionals available 24/7 to assist with daily activities, medication management, and other essential tasks.

North Point Village is about more than just offering excellent care. The community also provides a range of amenities to make life more enjoyable for its residents. From restaurant-style dining and a full calendar of social activities to secure and cozy common areas, North Point Village is a welcoming and supportive environment that feels like home.

Alzheimer’s Research in Spokane, WA

In addition to the services offered by North Point Village, there are promising developments in Alzheimer’s research happening right here in Washington State.

In 2022, researchers at Washington State University Health Sciences Spokane started a three-year and three-part study aimed at closing gaps in Alzheimer’s disease research.

According to recent statistics, approximately one in nine individuals over 65 develop Alzheimer’s disease. However, the prevalence of this condition among Indigenous American elders is significantly higher, affecting about one in three individuals, say the researchers.

One part of the study will analyze how obesity and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s and related conditions such as vascular dementia. Both contributing factors have a high prevalence among Indigenous populations.

Other research factors include beginning a support system for caregivers of Native Hawaiians with Alzheimer’s or related dementia in the Pacific Northwest. The final part of the research examines the link between type 1 diabetes and developing dementia.

Meanwhile, a Washington company is currently seeking volunteers in Spokane and Bellevue for trials of a potential new treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. This treatment focuses on reducing brain inflammation and making better connections between brain cells. It’s one of many new drugs that hopefully lead to a cure.

Despite the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease, there is a reason for hope. With the right care and support, along with ongoing advances in research and treatment, seniors with this condition can continue living fulfilling and meaningful lives.

If you or someone you know is looking for memory care services in or around Rockford and Spokane, know that innovative research is happening in the region. Communities like North Point Village are also here to provide comfort and support.
