Scott Owens, the Business Office Director at The Gardens at Marysville in Washington, is trading spreadsheets for cards and teaching residents the ins and outs of poker.
With his experience in smaller World Series poker events, Scott began hosting monthly lessons where residents are learning to play 7 Card No Peek, 5 Card Stud, and Blackjack. It’s a game where everyone’s hands are on deck, and no one’s bluffing about having fun.

Residents of all experience levels are joining in. While some are quickly picking up strategies and trying their luck, others are simply enjoying the camaraderie of the game. The focus is on having a good time, whether you’re calling, raising, or folding your way through the rounds.
“Activities like this are a great opportunity for our residents to learn new skills and enjoy time together,” said Falon Messer, Executive Director. “Scott has created a relaxed atmosphere where residents can have fun, connect with each other, and maybe even win a few hands along the way.”
