At Creston Village Assisted Living & Memory Care, there’s no such thing as quietly having a baby. When word spread that Maria B., one of the dining servers, was expecting her first child, Ezra, the response was swift: plans for a joint staff-and-resident baby shower were immediately underway.
Held in the community’s dining room, the event brought together around 75 residents and staff members. Maria received everything from wipes to toys, as well as enough Pampers to cover her newborn’s first few months. But the real showstopper wasn’t on the gift table; it was the parenting advice.
Executive Director Adam Bramwell served as emcee for the day. When he noticed the number of moms in the room, he asked for a quick tally.
“We counted 115 kids raised by women of all ages in that room,” Bramwell said. “So I figured Maria had landed in the right place for parenting tips.”
One by one, residents shared their best advice. Joyce, age 85, who has recently begun facing memory challenges, raised her hand and said, “Kids say the cutest things. My advice is to always write them down. Because in the moment, you think you’ll remember them forever. But you won’t.”
Maria, of course, left with more than just advice. She walked away with essentials, stories, and about 75 unofficial grandparents ready to meet Ezra. Bramwell, however, made sure one rule was established early.
“I get to hold him first when he comes to visit Mom’s workplace,” he said. “Them’s the rules.”
The sweet moment was shared by the Paso Robles Daily News and local news station KSBY.
Ezra was born on August 11, healthy and happy at 7 pounds, 11 ounces.
