Creston Village Assisted Living and Memory Care brought residents, family, and friends together on December 28, 2025, to celebrate a notable anniversary: Don and Helen’s 76th wedding anniversary. The gathering honored a partnership rooted in music, mutual respect, and a lifetime of dancing through life together — and it concluded with a scene guests won’t soon forget.
The finale came when Don and Helen stood up and sang “I’ll Never Find Another You” for everyone in attendance. The performance captured the essence of the couple’s story, which began decades earlier in the choir loft of their United Methodist church.
Don, now 100 years old, first locked eyes with Helen in 1946 while singing in the church choir. Their bond grew, and they fell in love on the dance floor. The couple married on December 28, 1949, and 76 years later, they perform together as naturally as ever.
A Card Drive Turned Community Event
Julie Tacker, our Director of Engagement at Creston Village, organized a unique card drive to celebrate Don and Helen’s 76th anniversary, aiming for one card for each year of marriage. Thanks to the kindness of our community, Don and Helen received a total of 96 cards from friends and well-wishers, showing just how many people wanted to honor their love.
“Don and Helen closed their 76th anniversary party by singing for everyone who came, which is exactly the kind of thing they would do,” said Tacker. “We set a target of 76 cards and ended up with 96 cards, which shows how much people wanted to celebrate them. They met in a church choir, fell in love on a dance floor, and 76 years later, they’re still performing together. We’ll do it again next year for 77.”
