Beach towels, sunscreen, and sandwiches were all residents needed for The Chateau at Gardnerville’s yearly trip to Lake Tahoe this summer. Residents from the assisted living and memory care community got on the bus early, with coolers packed and sun hats ready.
The Nevada Beach Pavilion gave everyone a shady spot to rest from the sun. The Chateau’s dining team had lunch on-site, and the afternoon had music, beach volleyball, and time spent together. Some residents played games, while others relaxed and felt the breeze from the lake.

“This trip was one of our favorite days of the year,” said Katie Nichols, Executive Director of The Chateau at Gardnerville. “It was a chance to get fresh air, eat good food, and spend time with friends and family.”
The trip showed how The Chateau works to give residents fun and active time outside. Life, regardless of whether someone has cognitive conditions, includes opportunities to travel and be with others. Recently, KOLO TV shared a story about The Chateau’s trip, showing how residents from Gardnerville brought sunscreen and happy smiles to the beach.
