Lancaster Seniors Share Stories From Careers That Made History

Four residents at The Havens at Antelope Valley in Lancaster, CA, recently shared stories from their working days. And wow, these aren’t your average desk jobs. We’re talking spy planes, banking breakthroughs, and career climbs that prove it’s never too late to reach the top.

Spy Planes and Secret Missions

Nancy B., 83, worked at Pacific Air Motive for about 23 years. Her claim to fame? She was part of the SR-71 program in Palmdale, California. The SR-71 was one of the fastest, most advanced spy planes ever built. Nancy got to be part of that history.

Today, Nancy lives in the Connections memory care program at The Havens at Antelope Valley. Connections is a relationship-oriented and evidence-based Connect, Move, and Learn program for residents with dementia. Ask her about her proudest achievement, and she won’t mention the aircraft. She’ll tell you about her two daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Those are her real treasures.

Nancy has some advice for younger people: don’t fall, learn as much as you can about as many things as you can, and try to be kind and respectful to others. Pretty solid wisdom from someone who helped keep America safe from 60,000 feet.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling Before It Was Cool

Janice F., 80, spent 30 years in banking. She worked her way up to Assistant Vice President, which is impressive in its own right. But here’s what makes her story really stand out — she was the first woman at her bank to handle the portfolio for 36 car dealerships.

Imagine it’s the 1970s and 1980s. Car dealerships were a boys’ club. Banking wasn’t much better. Janice walked into both worlds and proved she could handle the numbers, the negotiations, and the pressure. She didn’t just succeed. She paved the way for every woman who came after her.

From Housekeeper to Head Honcho

Norma G., 85, began working at a senior living community in Santa Barbara in her early forties. Her first job? Housekeeper. Her last job? Director of Housekeeping. She spent 25 years with the same company, moving up one step at a time.

Norma knows senior living from the inside out. She cleaned the rooms, managed the teams, and set the standards. Now she’s a resident at The Havens at Antelope Valley, experiencing the kind of care she spent decades providing to others.

Serving on Land and Sea

Warren H., 78, served seven years in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1974. Those were intense years, right in the middle of the Vietnam War. After his service ended, Warren took his skills to Boeing, where he worked as a Security Officer from 1974 to 1994.

For 20 years, Warren protected one of America’s biggest aerospace companies. Add that to his Navy service, and you’ve got nearly three decades of keeping people safe and operations secure.

Where Lancaster Seniors Write the Next Chapter

The residents at The Havens at Antelope Valley didn’t just punch clocks. They made history. Nancy B. worked on classified aerospace programs. Janice F. shattered banking stereotypes. Norma G. proved that where you start doesn’t dictate where you finish. Warren H. served his country in uniform and in the private sector.

Their careers took them across California, through banking boardrooms, into Navy ships, and onto factory floors. Now they’re all in Lancaster, living in a community that values every chapter of their stories.
