Tubing across Wilson Lake with her grandchildren, Jimmie B. showed that age is no barrier to adventure at 85!

The adventurous grandmother moved to The Renaissance of Florence from Avon Park, Florida, to be closer to family. While you’ll often find her riding her tricycle outside the senior living community in Alabama, she was absent for a full week during the summer. Each year, her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids vacation on the water.
The most recent destination was Doublehead Resort in Town Creek. As always, Jimmie headlined the family group chat with her ambitious antics.
While most might expect her to supervise from a shaded chair, Jimmie grabbed a life vest, climbed aboard a tube, and zipped across Wilson Lake to the sound of her grandkids shouting, “Go Mimi, Go!”
“I just have always loved the water,” she told journalist Alyssa Sutherland of the TimesDaily. “I water skied, I slalom skied and everything until I broke my knee.”
“I never quit tubing,” she added. “I have a good-looking grandson that’s tough enough to help me up and I tube every year!”
The family captured the heartwarming moment on cell phone, which later aired on WAAY 31 TV.
“Jimmie’s spirit is exactly what we hope for here,” said Laura Fithian, Executive Director of The Renaissance of Florence. “She reminds everyone that age doesn’t define what you’re capable of, especially when family’s involved.”
