Former Pro Athlete Brings Energy to Senior Living in Atlanta

Professional athletes are known for discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. At Dunwoody Place in Atlanta, GA, those same qualities are now helping residents stay active and engaged.

Rema Miller joined Dunwoody Place on February 5, 2025, as a Life Enrichment Partner. Before working in senior living, she played collegiate basketball at Clemson University and competed professionally overseas in Athens, Greece, before the WNBA existed. Her passion for working with residents and leading activities quickly led to her promotion to Life Enrichment Director.

From Professional Basketball to Senior Wellness

Miller’s background in athletics has shaped the way she approaches wellness programming at Dunwoody Place. Her favorite moments often happen during the community’s morning exercise class, where residents arrive ready to participate and support one another.

Residents, including Barbara B., regularly attend the class and give their best effort despite physical limitations. For Miller, seeing that dedication every day is both motivating and humbling.

Creating Meaningful Moments for Residents

Beyond exercise classes, Miller has also helped introduce outings and activities designed to bring residents together and create new experiences.

One recent outing brought residents to Peachtree Road Methodist Church to hear the Georgia Boy Choir perform. For Barbara B., the event marked her first group excursion in eight years of assisted living. Her daughter later shared how meaningful the experience was and expressed gratitude to Miller for encouraging her mother to attend.

Lessons Learned From Working With Seniors

Before joining Dunwoody Place, Miller worked with older adults living with mental health diagnoses. That experience helped shape her appreciation for seniors and the important role caregivers play in their lives.

She believes working in senior living offers valuable lessons about patience, compassion, and the importance of caring for older family members. It also highlights how important preparation and planning can be for the later stages of life.

Under Miller’s leadership, Dunwoody Place continues to offer daily exercise programs, social activities, and community outings that help residents stay connected and engaged.
