Chefs Step Away From the Kitchen
At Magnolia Place of Roswell, Executive Chef Michael Barday and Sous Chef Tanner Roshak recently traded their aprons for dealer visors. The poker night they hosted brought residents together for cards and creative cuisine in Roswell, GA.
Chef Michael Barday, who gained his poker-playing experience in Las Vegas, developed the concept for a casino-style evening that everyone could enjoy, regardless of their level of expertise.
Menu Designed for Easy Enjoyment
The culinary team prepared a menu that kept the focus on fun and flavor. Big Mac sliders, Kielbasa rolls, pulled pork taquitos, and house-made Chex mix gave residents easy-to-enjoy snacks while they played their hands.
Residents responded with competitive play and plenty of interaction at the tables. One new player asked a seasoned participant, “How did you learn poker?” The answer drew laughs across the tables: “It cost me 20 years and $10,000 to get this good at poker.”
More Than Just Cards
“It was rewarding to see residents concentrating on their cards while enjoying the food,” said Kevin Holyfield, Executive Director of Magnolia Place of Roswell. “Watching them interact at the tables reminded me that sometimes the simplest activities can be the most enjoyable.”
The evening offered more than just cards. Residents could try something different and interact with neighbors they might not normally meet.
Monthly Series Planned
Magnolia Place of Roswell plans to continue the theme with monthly casino nights featuring rotating games, including Poker, Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, and Mahjong.
