On September 11, 2025, the team at Ridgeland Place recognized, honored, and celebrated the veterans who make the senior living community their home. Resident Jimmy H. was front and center. The team highlighted the 92-year-old N
avy veteran, who served aboard the USS Natrona in the Pacific Theater during World War II, with a high honor.
His day began with an opportunity to share his story and experiences with the entire state of Mississippi through a conversation with radio host Gerard Gibert on SuperTalk Mississippi.
After lunch, General Herold Cross presented Jimmy with an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol. The honorary gesture was made on behalf of U.S. Rep Michael Guest. “It’s very precious to me,” Jimmy said of the gift, to a journalist with the Clarion Ledger.
Jimmy wasn’t the only veteran recognized. Ridgeland Place and several community partners presented gifts to every resident who served in the military. Life Enrichment Director Vicky Gilbert was behind the special event, which was highlighted on WJTV 12 News.
“We took time to recognize the veterans among us, like Jimmy — not only for what they had done, but for who they were,” said Michael Ryan, Executive Director of Ridgeland Place. “Their stories became part of our community’s story.”
