At Gig Harbor Court, Easter baskets aren’t just for kids — they’re a way to bring people together for a meaningful cause. Leading up to the spring holiday, residents, staff, and families of the senior living community came together to assemble beautiful gifts filled with candy and treats for women and children in need throughout Pierce County.
Residents in memory care filled all the colorful easter eggs with sweets and surprises. The activity helped sharpen their dexterity and sparked conversations about how they celebrated Easter with their families. Residents in assisted living then wrote cards of encouragement and assembled the baskets with bright Easter grass, the eggs put together by their neighbors, and even more candy.
“We invest a lot of time making sure we can engage with the residents,” Community Sales Director Linda Jo Dutton told FOX 13 Seattle. “They range anywhere from low 70s all the way up to 103!”
“Things like this give them a sense of purpose, and it also lets them reminisce about the things they’ve always done,” she added.
The completed baskets were delivered to the YWCA for distribution to women and children, and additional personal supplies were delivered shortly after. The YWCA Pierce County is committed to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Through their services, they support individuals and families across the county, and this partnership with Gig Harbor Court allows them to bring even more comfort and cheer to those in need.
“We’re excited to bring the community together for a fun, purpose-filled afternoon,” said LaTanya Jules, Executive Director of Gig Harbor Court. “It’s a chance to create something sweet that will bring a little light into someone’s day.”
