Ridgeland Place, which offers assisted living and memory care in the Jackson, Mississippi metropolitan area, welcomed 26 students from Fuge Christian Camp, where daily activities were more exciting than usual. There was dancing, Bingo, and plenty of conversation.
Teens spent the day with residents, pairing off for rounds of their favorite games, dancing to familiar tunes, and swapping stories across generations. Residents from Connections — the senior living community’s memory care program for those with dementia — also joined in on the fun.
For the residents, it broke up the routine, and for the campers, it may have added a few new names to remember and some bingo rules to learn.
“Anytime we see this much interaction between age groups, it tells us something’s working,” said Michael Ryan, Executive Director of Ridgeland Place. “And it wasn’t just about the activities. It was about the way everyone showed up and stayed present.”
