Residents at The Oaks at Inglewood are finding new ways to stay active thanks to Melly Y., who brings Chair Zumba and Chair Yoga to the community each week.
Melly is a focused instructor who uses prosthetic legs and knows how to get a room moving. Her classes skip the extras and get straight to what matters: clear routines, steady rhythm, and practical movement.
Over 15 residents joined her first class. Since then, her sessions continue to draw strong participation. “Zumba days are full of movement and rhythm. It doesn’t feel like exercise—it feels easy to keep going,” said Nita Iv, The Oaks’ Life Enrichment Director. “Chair Yoga offers a slower pace, and many residents choose to attend both.”
Melly runs every class from a chair herself, seated alongside the group. Her approach is direct: stay consistent, make each movement count, and meet people where they are.
“She communicates clearly, offers reliable pacing, and encourages everyone to work within their limits,” Nita added. “There’s structure, support, and a shared focus.”
