For the past nine years, the residents of South Hill Village and Cataldo Catholic School have had a tight-knit relationship. It’s part of the longstanding partnership that creates intergenerational programming, allowing both groups to participate in many shared activities. Their most recent is for a good cause!
Seniors living in Connections memory care paired with kids in 8th grade to make no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus. This nonprofit provides handmade blankets to children experiencing serious illness, trauma, or other challenges.

The idea to support Project Linus was inspired by a sister community in Kansas — Pegasus Landing of Overland Park. Through Pegasus Senior Living’s monthly collaboration meetings between its communities, the volunteering opportunity quickly gained support from both residents and staff. Residents saw it as a purposeful way to contribute to others while working together with younger members of the Spokane community.
While it was a great time for both students and seniors, the day was made extra special by a visit from KXLY, who showcased their unique friendship in a newscast.
“For nearly a decade, our partnership with Cataldo Catholic School has brought such joy and purpose to our residents,” said Kari Miller, Executive Director of South Hill Village. “Making blankets for Project Linus alongside these incredible 8th graders was more than just a craft — it was a shared act of kindness that connected generations and uplifted our entire community.”
