At 92, Bill A. still lights up when he’s behind the camera. A proud Navy veteran and resident of The Seasons of Reno, Bill has spent decades capturing moments big and small, with more than 15,000 photos saved on his computer and a Sony A77 camera always within reach.
“I started using it on our trips to the Mediterranean Sea — and I was fortunate enough to be able to work with a couple of Naval photographers photographing the H-bomb test in the 1950s,” he told KOLO TV News.
“When digital photography came in, I really got interested in it. It is so cool. You can do just about anything.”
Since then, his collection has grown to include everything from sweeping landscapes and classic cars to family milestones and candid snapshots. Yet one photo stands above the rest: a cherished portrait of his wife, Lynda.
“I like taking pictures of things I like,” Bill shared. “If you see a good image, take a picture of it. It could be nature, cars, people, or anything you like. Cameras are getting super expensive, but it’s worth it to get the shot.”
Recently, Bill’s creativity took center stage during a community showcase held in honor of World Photography Day. Residents and staff gathered to admire his photos, hear the stories behind them, and celebrate how his lifelong passion continues to inspire others.
“Bill has an incredible way of letting his photos tell the story,” said Haydde Martinez, Life Enrichment Director at The Seasons of Reno. “Watching him share those experiences reminded us how hobbies grow with us and keep life interesting.”
