The holiday season brought a double dose of joy to Castlewoods Place Senior Living in Brandon, where residents embraced December with hands-on creativity and lively celebrations. From crafting handmade Christmas ornaments to dancing the afternoon away at birthday parties, the community was filled with movement, laughter, and meaningful moments.
Residents in our Connections memory care program recently gathered for a festive ornament-making session, designing decorations that adorned trees throughout Castlewoods Place. This seasonal activity offered residents a chance to contribute to the community’s seasonal décor while enjoying time together in a relaxed, supportive environment. For many, the experience blended creativity with connection, turning simple materials into keepsakes filled with holiday spirit. These experiences are especially meaningful within the Connections program, where familiar traditions and sensory activities can create comfort and connection, especially during the holidays.
Hitting the Dance Floor for the Holidays
As Christmas neared, the spotlight turned to celebration when our residents gathered for a birthday party that quickly became unforgettable. Ninety-year-old Shirley delighted the room when she took to the floor and danced to the Oak Ridge Boys’ classic “Elvira,” drawing cheers and applause from fellow residents and team members alike.
“When Shirley started dancing to ‘Elvira,’ everyone stopped what they were doing to watch. She’s become something of a legend around here,” said Jan Davis, Executive Director at Castlewoods Place. “Earlier in the month, we had residents making these gorgeous ornaments for our trees, and now Shirley’s giving us a dance performance. December has been full of surprises, and honestly, that’s exactly how we like it.”
December programming has continued throughout the month, with residents already looking ahead to the new year’s activities and events. Each gathering, big or small, reflects our community’s commitment to creating days filled with purpose, laughter, and shared experiences, turning residents’ ordinary moments into cherished memories.
